Neo Jenny
 

Neo Jenny is presently the Artistic Director of the Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (SCDT), Adjunct Lecturer at the LaSalle College of the Arts (LaSalle) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), as well a Tutor of NUS (National University of Singapore) Chinese Dance.

 

From a young age, Jenny developed an interest in the arts under the influence of her mother, Mdm Lim Moi Kim. She began her training in Chinese classical and Chinese ethnic folk dance at the age of ten. Jenny later pursued ballet, jazz and hip-hop to enrich herself further.

 

In 2004, Jenny received a training grant and scholarship from the National Arts Council and the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan to further her professional training at the Beijing Dance Academy. In 2009, she graduated with a BA (Hons) in dance at LaSalle College of the Arts. Over the course of her studies, Jenny has come under the tutelage of, as well as collaborated with, many renowned and experienced dance practitioners who have greatly value-added to her learning.

 

Jenny also has a rich experience in dance choreography and has produced multiple commendable works that attained local and international recognition. Her most recent works "Veiled" and "Phases within our Control" has represented Singapore in multiple international stages such as Sibu International Dance Festival 2022, ASEAN Unity for Peace Cultural Festival 2022, 19th Busan International Dance Festival 2023 and Solo International Performing Arts Festival 2023 and Banjarmasin International Performing Arts Festival 2023.

“Floral Symphony: An Inimitable Beauty" (2023), premiered in SCDT’s tenth Company production.


“SOAR: A Devotion" (2022), co-choreographed with Benedict Soh, premiered in SCDT’s ninth Company production.

“If It’s Now” (2022), co-choreographed with Benedict Soh, premiered in Huayi - Chinese Festival of Arts. 

“The Susurration of the Tree (2021)” premiered digitally in SCDT’s eighth Company Production.​

“Phases - Within Our Control” (2021), presented by Diploma in Dance, Lasalle-College of the Arts, and “Harmony” (2021), presented by Diploma in Dance, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, are showcased at the Esplanade and schools’ digital platforms.

“BE “Wildered” (2021), presented by NUS Chinese Dance in NUS Arts Festival 2021.

“The Void Within” (2017), a collaboration with guest artiste Jiang Wei from China. It was premiered in SCDT’s fifth Company Production, HEARTiculation

“The Voyage Down South” (2017), a collaboration with company dancer Zeng Xiang under the commission of Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan as part of the Singapore Hokkien Festival in 2017.

“Fry-Fingerling —— a segment of Returning” (2015), a collaboration with composer Julian Wong, under the direction of Madam Goh Lay Kuan. She was one of the five choreographers for the production “Returning”, an opening show for the Singapore International Festival of Arts 2015.

“The Wilderness” (2014), a full-length dance drama, premiered in SCDT’s second Company Production, ROOTED | A Triple Bill. This work was also staged at the “Vietnam International Dance Festival 2017” held in Ninh Binh, Vietnam and clinched a Gold award.

“The Invisible Entity” (2011) received the “Most Popular Work” in the “Sprouts – New Works Platform for Budding Choreographers”.
