Neo Jenny
 

Neo Jenny currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (SCDT) and holds teaching positions at Lasalle College of the Arts, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and the National University of Singapore's Chinese Dance Department. She has embarked on a rich artistic journey.

Under the influence of her mother, Madam Lim Moi Kim, Neo Jenny began training in Chinese classical and folk dance at the age of ten, laying a solid foundation for her dance career. In 2004, she received a scholarship to further her studies at the Beijing Dance Academy, specializing in Chinese dance choreography. After graduating with honors from Lasalle College of the Arts in 2009, she actively pursued studies in ballet and contemporary dance, enriching her dance skills and expanding her understanding of choreography. By exploring and practicing various dance styles, she cultivated a diverse creative ability, enabling her to better integrate into and comprehend the atmosphere of choreography, injecting her artistic journey with greater depth and richness.

Throughout her academic journey, she received guidance and collaboration from numerous renowned dancers, greatly enriching her learning experience. In 2019, she successfully completed her higher education and obtained certification as a dance examiner for the Chinese Ethnic and Folk Dance Grading Examination Syllabus (Beijing, China), further solidifying her professional skills in the field of dance.

Neo Jenny's global impact includes showcasing her choreographic works in China, South Korea, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Her collaborations with renowned dance professionals across borders have significantly shaped her artistic talent and made important contributions to the international dance stage.

“Floral Symphony: An Inimitable Beauty" (2023), premiered in SCDT’s tenth Company production.


“SOAR: A Devotion" (2022), co-choreographed with Benedict Soh, premiered in SCDT’s ninth Company production.

“If It’s Now” (2022), co-choreographed with Benedict Soh, premiered in Huayi - Chinese Festival of Arts. 

“The Susurration of the Tree (2021)” premiered digitally in SCDT’s eighth Company Production.​

“Phases - Within Our Control” (2021), presented by Diploma in Dance, Lasalle-College of the Arts, and “Harmony” (2021), presented by Diploma in Dance, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, are showcased at the Esplanade and schools’ digital platforms.

“BE “Wildered” (2021), presented by NUS Chinese Dance in NUS Arts Festival 2021.

“The Void Within” (2017), a collaboration with guest artiste Jiang Wei from China. It was premiered in SCDT’s fifth Company Production, HEARTiculation

“The Voyage Down South” (2017), a collaboration with company dancer Zeng Xiang under the commission of Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan as part of the Singapore Hokkien Festival in 2017.

“Fry-Fingerling —— a segment of Returning” (2015), a collaboration with composer Julian Wong, under the direction of Madam Goh Lay Kuan. She was one of the five choreographers for the production “Returning”, an opening show for the Singapore International Festival of Arts 2015.

“The Wilderness” (2014), a full-length dance drama, premiered in SCDT’s second Company Production, ROOTED | A Triple Bill. This work was also staged at the “Vietnam International Dance Festival 2017” held in Ninh Binh, Vietnam and clinched a Gold award.

“The Invisible Entity” (2011) received the “Most Popular Work” in the “Sprouts – New Works Platform for Budding Choreographers”.
