Dance Traineeship

Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (SCDT), formerly known as the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Dance Troupe, was established in 1990 under the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK). In 2013, SCDT was awarded the Seed Grant by the National Arts Council (NAC). With strong support from SHHK, it became a professional dance company in 2014. Since 2016, SCDT has been receiving funding under the NAC's Major Company scheme, underscoring its vital role in promoting and developing Chinese dance in Singapore. The company continuously strives for artistic and creative excellence, aiming scale new heights in the Chinese dance scene.

In celebration of Singapore’s 60th anniversary, SCDT has curated Dance Season 2025/26, featuring a series of captivating programmes that will resonate deeply with the local community.

We invite passionate and talented individuals to join us on this exciting journey as dance trainees.

SCDT's Company Production
International arts festivals;
SCDT’s community outreach events, such as Chinese Dance Fiesta and Under the BIG Tree; and
Invited performances.

Job Opportunities: Trainee will be given a weekly allowance as well as a performance allowance. Outstanding candidates get a chance to receive a one-year contract as Company Dance Apprentices, subjected to availability.

Pre-requisites:

18 to 30 years old;
Minimum Height: 1.6m (for females) and 1.7m (for males); and
Minimum Criteria: Dance graduates (Singaporean/PR), current dance students of recognised local art institutes (e.g. Lasalle, NAFA or School of the Arts), or those with at least a Grade 12 Chinese Dance Graded Examination accreditation or equivalent.

Requirements:

Traineeship period: April 2025 - March 2026
Training days: Saturday and Sunday (To attend a minimum of one scheduled dance training weekly);
Training hours: Every Saturday, 1 pm – 7 pm; Every Sunday, 12 pm – 6:30 pm; and
Additional attendance for dance training, rehearsals and performances as required.

Audition:

Date: 8 February 2025 (Saturday)

Time: 2 pm - 5 pm
Location: 5 Sennett Road, Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Cultural Academy, Blk A, Singapore 466781
Content: Attend company class (including barre work, centre work and technique routine), present at least 2 minutes of dance repertoire and dance improvisation.
