Season 2024 / 25 · 10th Anniversary

Over the last ten years, Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (SCDT) has withstood various challenges that have paved the way for our growth and progress.

The overarching theme of this dance season, "A Symphony of Life," paints a vivid picture akin to a flowing river, collecting the shared efforts, sweat, and passion of everyone involved in SCDT’s journey.

As we dance within the currents of this symbolic river, we use the art of dance to articulate the intricate rhythm of life, allowing us to feel the gentle ripples of time. We acknowledge the struggles of the past with gratitude, and each obstacle overcome is a testament to our collective resilience.

We sincerely thank everyone who has been part of this unforgettable voyage, adding colours and vibrancy to the story of Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre. With optimism and excitement, we look forward to the unfurling future, likened to the blossoming of flowers. Chinese Dance Fiesta 2024

“Chinese Dance Fiesta” is a nation-wide outreach programme that aims to strengthen the camaraderie among the local Chinese dance community while fostering a deeper level of appreciation for Chinese dance within the larger community.

This year, audiences can look forward to 9 performances, Dance Masterclasses on Chinese Han-Tang Classical Dance, Contemporary Chinese Dance and Yao Ethnic Folk Dance, as well as Dance Talk & Demonstration sessions on Chinese Han-Tang Classical Dance and Yao Ethnic Folk Dance.

"A Symphony of Life" In collaboration with Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay explores Singapore as a garden city that embraces a rich tapestry of cultures. The dance poem centres around a meandering river, symbolizing perpetual flow, where banks become a shared space for elements, people, and resources to coexist harmoniously—a vital artery sustaining an unceasing life force.

The performance artfully portrays individuals uniting to form a formidable team. "A Symphony of Life" conveys a profound message of unity, mutual support, and shared life processes under a common purpose. This dance, embodying the metaphor of the river of life, underscores the strength found in collaboration, prompting contemplation on how collective efforts can lead to a more beautiful and dynamic existence.

“Under the BIG Tree” is SCDT’s highly enthused outdoor dance carnival. Located within the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Cultural Academy, the iconic big tree serves as a majestic backdrop to an evening of dazzling dance performances prepared by SCDT’s company dancers Performance Troupes (Children, Junior, Youth), SCDT’s training classes students as well as students of neighbouring schools.

Goodman Arts Centre -- Black Box

“Emergence” serves as a stepping stone for aspiring dance choreographers who are looking for an avenue to gain exposure to and develop their choreography skills. With professional guidance from renowned figures in the industry, every participant will present a full-length work at a ticketed show at the end of the programme.

This year’s theme "Return to the Origin" emphasises on the importance of rediscovering and reconnecting with our cultural roots.
